The Danish krone is one of the few EU currencies not adopted by a member state, as Denmark negotiated an opt-out from the euro while maintaining a currency peg.
- Adopted in 1875 as part of the Scandinavian Monetary Union alongside Sweden and Norway
- Replaced the rigsdaler as Denmark's primary currency
- Maintained a fixed exchange rate to gold under the gold standard until 1931
- Pegged to the German reichsmark during World War II occupation
- Joined the European Exchange Rate Mechanism in 1982 and maintains a fixed peg to the euro
