Agender Pride Flag
History
Salem X (also known as Transrants) designed the Agender Pride Flag in 2014 on Tumblr. The agender community had been developing alongside non-binary communities online but sought a distinct flag to mark an identity characterised by the absence of gender rather than a gender outside the binary. The green stripe draws on the genderqueer palette to signal connection to the non-binary family of identities. The seven-stripe mirrored design was unusual and attracted both praise for its visual distinctiveness and criticism for complexity.
Colors
black, grey, white, green
Black represents the complete absence of gender; grey represents semi-genderlessness; white represents all genders (as a mixture, now neutralised); green represents non-binary gender (using green as with genderqueer, outside the pink/blue binary).
Symbols
seven horizontal stripes (mirrored, with green at centre)
The symmetrical design around the green centre stripe creates visual balance, and the black outer edges convey a firm absence of gender at both extremes.
