The Austro-Hungarian Empire was a dual monarchy that existed from 1867 until its dissolution after World War I. The empire used separate flags for its Austrian and Hungarian halves, along with a joint flag. It was one of the great powers of Europe and collapsed spectacularly at the end of WWI.
