The Hungarian Forint is one of the few EU member currencies that has resisted eurozone adoption, maintaining its independence since 1946.
- Introduced in 1946 after World War II, replacing the pengő which had suffered severe hyperinflation
- Named after the Hungarian word 'forint' derived from the Italian city of Florence, referencing historical gold coins
- Redenominated in 1927 and again in 1946 due to economic instability following the world wars
- Became the sole legal currency of Hungary and has remained in use for over 75 years
- Hungary joined the European Union in 2004 but retained the forint instead of adopting the euro
